Artist Call Out - NZ Contemporary Textiles Exhibition

Expressions of interest for contemporary textile artists to exhibit in the UK.

Seeking artists whose work brings an innovative and challenging approach to their textile based art practice and whose work shows the best in contemporary fibre, thread, fabric and cloth from New Zealand to take part in an exhibition at the Knitting and Stitching Show, the definitive and best public textile show in the UK and Ireland, travelling between London, Dublin and Harrogate during October and November. In addition to international exposure, there is also potential for selling work, though this is never guaranteed.
The project is coordinated and curated by Alysn Midgelow-Marsden (textile artist) and Arts Council Nelson.
We need you to send:
A brief CV,
An artist statement,
Images of up to 10 works which are representative of your work. Please make clear whether the works shown are the actual works for selection or whether, if selected, you would be making new work for the exhibition.
Include dimensions, approximate weight and hanging method for each work.
There may be transport costs involved, however we are currently seeking funding to assist with this and therefore at this stage, expressions of serious interest for selection are being called for without final commitment.
Send information by email to alysnmm@gmail.com. Maximum attachment size 10MB.
Deadline for information: 15th February 2015

This is ... Immaterial. Views from the exhibition

Apologies, these images were from June, it is now August. Excuse - been working away in the UK and am now catching up.
Our first group exhibition was hosted at the Minerva Gallery in Wellington. Thanks for all who came to the preview or afterwards to see the work. I hope you were also tempted by some of the books in store at Minerva!

Keeping it quick and simple, here are some views of the exhibition and the works on display:

Call out for new members

‘Immaterial’ is a group of established textile based artists who are serious about their art practice and advancing the status of textiles as fine art.

As energetic, independent artists we are seeking expressions of interest from like minded creatives.

If you feel that your textile based practice shows an innovative and challenging approach to your art and you want to cultivate and advance the practice of stitch and textile art, then send us your submission as soon as possible.

Being a part of a high profile exhibiting group will enable you to gain increased exposure through exhibitions, association with other ‘names’ and web visibility as well as peer support when desired.

Once selected, members will be expected to be active, engaged group members, developing work, exhibition concepts and helping with the organisation also to be available for an annual meeting of all members. There will be one exhibition per year which all members will be expected to take part in. This will be a showcase one year and a themed exhibition the following year. Members are also encouraged to put forward proposals for exhibitions highlighting their own interests and using their contacts. These exhibitions will be in addition to the main group shows, and may involve some or all members as relevant.  An important part of our vision for exhibitions is to avoid the common ‘ghetto-isation’ of work in fabric and stitch, therefore additional artists may be invited as guests to take part as appropriate.

Entry to the group will be selective and based on the information in your submission. Selection is ongoing until the group is full.

An annual membership fee (currently $50.00) is due once selected. This covers basic administrative costs and pay towards the annual exhibition.

Your submission should include your CV and artistic history, and a statement or description of your vision for your work.

Please send up to 10 images, with no more than 5 of these being details. For each image also record the name of the piece, size (cms), year and an outline of the materials and techniques used.

Images should be at least 160dpi and no larger than 2.0MB.

Electronic submissions only please to immaterialartists@gmail.com.

Thank you and we look forward to viewing your work.
