Artist: Katherine Bertram

Katherine says:

“My work takes inspiration from my domestic and geographic circumstances and my love of vintage
fabrics and design. My work embraces domestic interiors and suburban scenes as well as building upon the layering and three dimensionality of the finished piece.”

Katherine Bertram works in the mediums of fibre, print and paint.  She trained in Sydney at the College of Fine Arts majoring in Printmaking. Prior to settling in New Zealand her work was shown and held in
collections in Australia. Her current textile work draws on her print and painting in its layered and
collaged design. Her work shows influences from the painter Michael Cutlip and the fibre artist Gillian Bates. Her freehand machine embroidered cityscapes and images of vintage whimsy are a new direction on her work embroidering native flora and fauna.
